4. april 2 – 8

in order to make up for the absolutely pitiful week I had last week, I’m hoping for something a bit better from myself this week!  However when I woke up this morning and realised that it was time to push play on RevAbs I had a proper 2-year-old, screaming-in-the-supermarket type tantrum.  I simply cannot bear the thought of hearing him refer to himself as “El Capitan” one more time, let alone the dodgy hand movement.  To be honest, if I could see RevAbs doing anything for me, then I would be much more inclined to continue, but given that there seems like there are only about three or four moves within each work out, I would rather do something with a lot more variety and maybe add in a bit of Rev Abs every now and again.  I’ve ordered P90X2 and I’d been hoping it would turn up this week, but since it has to come from the US (not yet being out here) it’s not yet arrived and I’ll have to start next week.

Consequently, this week I’ve mixed up PT training with a few regular gym classes.  It’ll be the first gym classes I’ve attended (except for one ill-advised body pump class) since I went to New Zealand in January, so I’m hoping they’re gonna hurt!

the plan stan

monday:  pt practice + 1/2 hour wobble board session

tuesday:  ptp practice + bootcamp (ooh I’ve never done this, no idea what it entails!)

wednesday:  pt practice + puma faas class

thursday:  personal training + body combat

friday:  personal training + willpower & grace

saturday:  gymnastics

sunday:  P90X2

now here’s hoping that I actually manage to do most of this this week!

the result

What can I say?  This week was nearly as much of a bust as last week, at least up til Easter when I finally logged off my computer and made it home.  Once we hit Easter though, it was all systems go and I’ve almost managed to make up for the pathetic efforts I put in earlier in the week.

I received my P90X2 set on Thursday – HURRAH – and started it Friday (yep, I’m weird) so what I did doesn’t reflect the plan.  But as long as I was working out I was happy …

To keep it clean, I’ve set up a new blog to record my P90X2 exploits, and I’m gonna keep this one for work-out records and reviews.

monday

pt practice:  I don’t know why, but I cannot drag myself out of bed.  I’m awake, I just have the energy of a small and recalcitrant slug.

wobble-board:  so much fun!  Used the programme I worked out from the internet and whilst it was hard, it was fun.  Or more like funNY if I’d had a mirror … I wish I’d had a mirror.

tuesday

pt practice:  again, I can’t make myself get up.  Even looking at my vast stomach and informing myself that if I get up it will miraculously disappear (usually a surefire winner) can’t make me do it.  Puzzling.

bootcamp:  predictably, a deadline got in the way.  Shocker.

wednesday

pt practice:  something’s definitely wrong – I still can’t get up.  Huh?  Maybe it’s the carb-free thing.  Maybe I’ll chomp on some carbs later and see how I get on.

puma faas class:  deadline.

thursday

personal training:  forced myself there (although I’m telling you, it was a close run thing).  Had an okay work out but so lacking in energy that I could barely lift the weights.

body combat:  need I even say it?

friday

Guess what I got to do today?!  P90X2 BABY!  Oh yeah, it’s arrived and Tony is in fighting Hortonish form.  It was awesome.  Freaking awesome.  My full record of my P90X2 journey can be found here.

Even better, I celebrated my return to carbs by joyously consuming every carbohydrate known to man.  Complex or simple, I wasn’t fussy, and each and every gramme of carbohydrate was grist to my mill today.  Pasta, bread, sugar, crisps … hit me baby!  This was of course in the nature of a treat and tomorrow I’ll be watching what I eat a bit (or a lot) more, but at least I can move again without feeling like each step takes up the equivalent of British Gas’s entire reservoirs of energy.  Good news.

saturday

p90x2:  plyocide today and man, what a fun work-out.  It shouldn’t’ve been so fun when it was so hard, but it was awesome.  I feel almost embarrassed by how much I liked it.

gymnastics:  yet again, all about the handstands, although mixed up a bit today with cartwheels and round-offs.  Fun, but Steve was in a chatty mood so I got maybe 30 minutes in.  I’ve told him that from next week it’s all about working hard and that I won’t have time to chat … HA let’s see how long that lasts.

sunday

bikram yoga:  My cousin’s been raving about Bikram yoga for some time, so when a Groupon deal came up earlier in the week I bought it and took myself there today.  I posted a full account of it earlier today – it was cool!  Looking forward to next week.

p90x2:  today was all about stretching (woo hoo) and foam rolling.  I’m pro-stretching at the moment ’cause the flexibility’s the aim, so bring it on!  My full account can be found on my P90X2 blog.

conclusion

HALF … JUNKIE … HALF … JUNKIE

I’m thinking this week was quite literally half-hearted.  The first half was all about the … well, half, and the second half was all about the heart.  Now that I’m back on the carbs and I’ve got P90X2 hooked up, I’m pretty much junkie-ing it up!
